Home Series with Marjolein

Marjolein van de Broek works as a freelance PR professional. She is currently helping the Pulitzer Amsterdam with marketing and PR. For the DOUXE Home Series platform we took a look inside her beautiful little home. 

How important is your home to you? How important is personal space to you?

For me, home means a place where my loved ones are, but even more importantly, a place where I can relax. I like being out and about, but sometimes I also enjoy being at home to come back to myself. (Or to ground myself)

What are your requirements when creating and furnishing a bedroom and bathroom?

I want a space that eases the mind. A clean canvas where I can start the day well and calmly, but also a space where I feel safe in the evening. Serene colours and shapes, a touch of creativity, that is what I go for. 

How does this compare to choosing hotels when you are away? How does it compare to choosing a hotel?

I do not mind hotel rooms being a bit more ‘out there’. When I am on a work trip, I want to be able to stimulate my senses and creativity. On holiday, with a relaxed mind, I am more open to intriguing and atmospheric interior designs. 

How do you create that luxury feeling at home?

Quality materials! Our wallpaper from Arte is made of linen. In addition, our bed linen is of course from DOUXE, made of Egyptian cotton, which gives a crisp and at the same time soft feel. This is exactly what you are looking for (or at least I am :-)). But I am also convinced that art can be an important element in the bedroom. I am in love with our golden foil ‘sol’ poster. A poster with a minimalist look, but a hopeful feel.

Tips for others when designing a dream home?

Discover the beautiful interior brands that are out there and choose consciously. Also: follow your heart and look for a few ‘one of a kind’ items. That way you emphasise your own style and space.
