The Featherbed: the ultimate hotel-quality top layer for your bed
Nothing matches the experience of sleeping in an exclusive five-star hotel quite like a luxurious Featherbed on top of your mattress. To this day, this rich addition is the best-kept secret of leading hotel chains such as Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton and the SO hotels. A down featherbed transforms your mattress into a blissful cloud of comfort, in which optimal support and unrivalled softness come together effortlessly.
For centuries, the Featherbed has been known as a symbol of ultimate sleeping luxury. Where it was once a precious possession handed down from generation to generation, DOUXE now brings this iconic five-star experience directly to your own bedroom.
Which DOUXE Featherbed suits your sleeping style?
To meet all your personal sleeping wishes, DOUXE offers three carefully developed versions of the featherbed topper:
1. The Original Featherbed
The Original Featherbed has a high-quality filling of 70% feathers and 30% down. The generous proportion of down gives this mattress topper a luxurious softness and a wonderfully enveloping feel. At a thickness of 10 cm, this version imitates the classic "sleeping on a cloud" feeling. Thanks to the firm, more tightly woven ticking, the feathers stay neatly in place. The Original Featherbed is extremely user-friendly and only needs to be fluffed once a week to keep its fullness.
2. The Prestige Featherbed
Are you looking for an ultra-soft, refined top layer that is more subtle in its presence? The Prestige Featherbed has an exclusive filling of 50% feathers and 50% down. At a thickness of 5 cm, this top layer offers a perfect balance between extra support and silky-soft suppleness on top of your mattress.
3. The Fiberbed (Microfibre)
Specially developed for anyone who prefers a down-free alternative or has an allergy. The Fiberbed is filled with high-quality synthetic microfibres. It offers the same resilient, cloudlike support as a traditional down featherbed, but with the advantages of a hypoallergenic filling.
Available sizes: from 1-person to extra wide
Our DOUXE Featherbeds are available in a wide range of sizes, from 80x200 cm to generous double-bed sizes such as 200x200 cm, 200x210 cm and even 210x210 cm. We always recommend using the exact dimensions of your mattress for a perfect fit.
Care & protection of your Featherbed
A high-quality featherbed made of natural materials needs the right care to stay in top condition for years. With the following tips, your mattress topper keeps its luxurious volume and freshness:
-
Fluff regularly: Make it a habit to fluff and turn your down featherbed regularly. This restores the natural resilience and lushness of the filling of feathers and down.
-
Use a Featherbed protector: We strongly recommend using a special cotton Featherbed protector. This protective cover with a zip protects the Featherbed from friction with the mattress, prevents wear and keeps out house dust mites and moisture. The protector can easily be washed at 60°C.
-
Airing & ventilating: Fold back your duvet every day to let the bed breathe. Fresh air and direct sunlight help moisture to evaporate and keep your Featherbed fresh.
-
Professional cleaning: Because a Featherbed does not fit in a standard household washing machine, you can have it professionally cleaned if necessary. However, keep this to a minimum to preserve the natural protective layer of the feathers and down.
How do you make up a bed with a Featherbed?
For the best result, place the Featherbed (including protector) directly on top of your mattress. Around this you fit a fitted molton and a fitted sheet. In this way you create that characteristic, layered hotel look, while the Featherbed stays firmly in place.
Tip for an upholstered mattress: Combine the Featherbed with a thin mattress topper under the Featherbed, so that you can make up the whole thing tightly and seamlessly.
The difference between a Featherbed and Memory Foam (Slow-Recovery Foam)
The main difference between a Featherbed and a memory foam/slow-recovery foam topper lies in the material and the temperature regulation:
-
Featherbed (Natural): Filled with high-quality feathers and down (or microfibres). This ensures exceptional breathability, excellent ventilation and a cosy but never stuffy sleeping climate.
-
Memory Foam (Synthetic): Made of polyurethane. Slow-recovery foam responds to body heat and moulds itself to the pressure points. It therefore retains heat more quickly and feels firmer and warmer than the airy, resilient structure of a Featherbed.
