What is a hotel-quality mattress topper?
Experience the luxury and comfort of a hotel-quality mattress topper at home. It adds extra sleeping comfort while also offering excellent protection for the mattress underneath. Once you have slept on one, you won’t want to be without it.
What is a mattress topper?
A mattress topper, also known as a top cover mattress, is a mattress made of cold foam or feathers & down that lies on top of a mattress. A mattress topper moulds itself to the body and increases the comfort of the mattress underneath. There are several benefits to using a mattress topper. For one, it catches a large part of the dust, dirt and perspiration that you shed while sleeping. This keeps the mattress itself clean for longer and extends the life of the bed. In addition, you can use a mattress topper to bridge the seam between two separate mattresses, so that you get the feeling of one large mattress instead of two separate ones.
What types of mattress toppers are there?
There are many types of mattress toppers with different fillings on sale, such as cold foam, wool, down, comfort foam and memory foam. Other names for a mattress topper are top cover mattresses, overlay mattresses, lay-on mattresses, mattress toppers, toppers and top mattresses.
What makes our mattress toppers hotel quality?
For our range we have chosen mattress toppers made of superior materials: cold foam, feathers and down. The feather and down mattress, the DOUXE Featherbed, is a unique product from the five-star hotel industry.
What is the secret of five-star hotels?
A mattress topper is the finishing touch to a bed. It adds that extra layer of experience that you also find in luxury hotels, as if you were sinking into a soft cloud. In addition, our mattress toppers provide extra softness and comfort for the lighter parts of the body and reinforce the properties of the mattress beneath. With its springy filling of down and small feathers, the Featherbed moulds completely to the body and creates a soft, tangible top layer. Nothing comes as close to the experience of sleeping in a five-star hotel bed as adding a Featherbed. They are the secret ingredient of hotel chains such as Marriott, Ritz Carlton, W Hotels and Four Seasons for giving guests a unique sleeping experience. Good to know: a topper can also be used in combination with a Featherbed.
What is the difference between a DOUXE Featherbed and other mattress toppers?
There are many types of mattress toppers on the market with different fillings such as cold foam, wool, comfort foam, memory foam and horsehair. These fillings are generally perceived as stiff and add hardly anything in terms of extra comfort. By contrast, the Featherbed, with its springy filling of down and small feathers, moulds perfectly to the body and creates a soft, tangible top layer.
Our bed is a non-standard size. Can I buy a featherbed?
Does your bed not fit any of the available sizes? No problem, we can make any size and shape. This makes it possible, for example, to use a DOUXE Featherbed as a mattress or mattress topper on a boat, launch, caravan, camper and even in a tent. Read more about our made-to-measure products.
Which type of mattress topper should I choose: memory foam or cold foam?
In addition to the featherbed, we offer both cold foam, memory foam and mattress toppers. But what are the differences between these types of mattress toppers?
Memory foam mattress topper
Memory foam is made of visco-elastic polyurethane. As a result, memory foam becomes softer when it comes into contact with body heat and under body weight. Memory foam mattress toppers are also known as NASA foam, memory foam, slow motion foam and lazy foam. The advantage of a memory foam mattress topper is that it moulds to the contours of the body. As a result, the body is well supported, without pressure points. They are therefore also known as pressure-relieving mattress toppers.
Cold foam mattress topper
Cold foam owes its name to the way it is made. The foam is poured into cold moulds, which is also known as cold cure moulding. Cold foam is made of polyurethane, which has extra durability and resilience. Mattress toppers made of cold foam are also known as High Resilience (HR) foam. An advantage of a cold foam mattress topper is that it adapts easily to the shape of your body. This allows muscles and tendons to relax and gives optimal blood circulation. It also has good ventilation and air circulation. In addition, it gives off no odour and is naturally allergy-free.
How long does a mattress topper last?
A mattress topper has a shorter life than an ordinary mattress, but it is not intended as a full mattress either. It serves mainly as an extra comfort layer. Normal mattresses last ten years on average, and mattress toppers five to eight years. The exact lifespan depends on the type and thickness of the topper, but also on personal factors. Think, for example, of body weight or the amount of perspiration. To be able to use the mattress topper for as long as possible, it is important to turn and clean it regularly. Also let your bed air properly by folding your duvet double towards the foot end. The mattress underneath will last longer thanks to a mattress topper, because it is spared more wear.
